Rotorua 8 Feb

A group of teenagers converted last night the kitchen into a pub annex coffee bar. Unfortunately they produced so much loud "fun" that we unplugged the cable and drove the Van to a more silent place at midnight. It started to rain already during the night and all the way the morning to Rotorua.. We arrived around 10 Am and first visited the Thermal Area at Te Puia, once known as the NZ Maori Arts and crafts Institute. The attractions of the park include Maori carving and weaving, cultural performances ,which we did not see ,and several geysers and steaming/ bubbling mud pools. After we bought the tickets and passed the gates it was time for a cup of coffee and sausage roll.Than we raised the umbrella's and followed the directions. The first attraction was the kiwi house which was kept in a rather dark room. These birds are protected but sleep during daytime. Anyway I saw the shape of two birds and left the room up to the geysers. We saw the Leaping frog mud pool,Prince of Wales feathers geyser and the brain pot.It is sad that this pot have been used to cook the heads of enemies,no wonder that Abel not wanted to stay.At the cooking pool an employee of the park was preparing something . I did not ask what he was doing as my night rest was suffering already due to the party of the kids in the kitchen last night.Around 13.30 we left the park and looking for the camp side . My cloths were soaking wet cause very humid area and the drizzle. After lunch we walked into town .Rotorua is the North Island most popular tourist destination and known as the heathland of the Maori 's culture.During lunch the sun showed her face and dried our cloths however being in town it started raining again.Tomorrow will be heading to " Hobbiton Movie set which is a 50 minutes drive.
