Taupo 7 Feb

It was a cold night but slept well. Boiled some eggs and made some toast for breakfast. After a cup of coffee we drove to the parking area where the path of the Huka Falls waterway starts. They made a gravel path along the Waikato river. It is a constant up and down hill with some spectacular views and the noise of the crickets was deafening sometimes. A group of people was sitting in the water coming from the rocks at the side of the river. The water was hot and they enjoyed very much.

Approx. 200 m3 of water plunge 9 meter over the great rock face every second. Upstream of the falls , the Waikato river is clear and reflective. After plunging over the falls it picks up masses of tumbling air bubbles which creates breathtaking colors and give the falls their name after the Maori word of " foam". The flow over the falls is so strong that it prevents migration of trout and native fish such as eels which is why no eels are founding Lake Taupo. The walk lasted about 3 hour and before returning to the camping place some shopping was done in the City. The problem with a large Campervan is finding a good parking place however it was not that busy as yesterday so we managed. Later In the afternoon we cleaned the camper and Janet had some washing do .It is cloudy and expecting rain the coming days.Tomorrow we driving to Rotorua.
